Vacation and Custody

Vacation and Custody

Q. Can I take my kids on vacation this summer if I share custody with my ex-husband?

A. Summer is an excellent time for a family vacation. When a custody order is in place, it is common to be concerned about each parent’s rights to travel with their kids. Custody orders detail visitation schedules for each parent’s time during the school year and during summer, often including travel limitations. Each custody order is unique, so it is best to start by reviewing yours. If it is confusing or you want to change it, then you should contact an experienced family law attorney to guide you through the process. If your custody order does not allow for summer travel, you may be eligible to modify it to allow you to take that much anticipated summer vacation.
